Labor and environment join together to say: “This Father’s Day working fathers unite to say we need good, clean jobs" El Paso, Texas – On Tuesday, June 14, at 5:00PM, the Sierra Club and the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) will hold a joint press conference and rally to announce their partnership to hold ASARCO accountable for its labor and environmental violations. As El Pasoans prepare to celebrate Father’s Day, ASARCO is making new plans to poison our environment and short-change area workers. ASARCO has used this ploy in other economically depressed areas, believing that no one will challenge them, but El Pasoans are ready to stand up to ASARCO. In less than one month, the ASARCO permit renewal hearing begins. The Sierra Club and USWA will question ASARCO’s true intentions for our community and demand answers. WHO: Concerned fathers and children, Sierra Club, USW and citizens from Texas, New Mexico and Chihuahua WHAT: Press conference and rally where USW, Sierra Club and other concerned citizens will announce our collaboration. Organization representatives and citizens will be available to give statements in English and Spanish.
